Here's a small selection of songs whose second hand versions by different artists have gained a much wider listenership.
Josh Whyte - House of the Rising Sun (Made famous by The Animals)
Henry Thomas - Bulldoze Blues (Made famous by Canned Heat, changing lyrics and title)
Lead Belly - Where Did You Sleep Last Night (No-one can actually take credit for writing this one as it's believed to be around 150 years old. This song has had three different titles, the others being 'In the Pines' and 'Black Girl'. It was brought into the public light when Nirvana covered it for the MTV Unplugged session.)
Little Willie John - Fever (Covered by everyone from Elvis Presley to Brian Eno)
Blind Willie McTell - Southern Can Mama (Covered by the White Stripes on the album De Stijl. The title was slightly changed to Your Southern Can is Mine)
